Your skipper and guide will provide you an informative commentary along the way, pointing out places of interest and facts about the wildlife you will encounter.
The main attraction, of course, is the Royal Albatross Centre, Taiaroa Head, at the entrance to the harbor. Watch from the water as these magnificent birds glide along the cliff faces and swoop down along the waves, sometimes beside the boat. An experience not to be missed.

Port Chalmers
The historic Port town of Otago Harbour. All of the big cruise ships dock here in Port Chalmers.
Port Otago is located here and is the largest port in the southern South Island.
The home base of the Port Chalmers inshore fishing fleet. See the fishing boats parked in their berths and occasionally unloading the catch of the day.
Also the location of the Careys Bay Hotel, one of the oldest pub/hotels in the country. They have a great menu with fresh seafood sourced from the local fishermen.
You can choose to be dropped here after your tour.
Quarantine Island
We pass by Quarantine Island/Kamau Taurua. See cormorants perched on the cliffs. Learn of the history of the quarantine station.
It is home to the world's only mainland breeding colony of the Northern Royal Albatross.
Watch these magnificent seabirds swoop and glide above the cliffs and headland.
This area has an abundance of wildlife and seabirds.

We depart from the floating jetty adjacent to the shiny 'Ray White' building at the southern end of the wharf.
This is your departure point if you're joining the tour from Port Chalmers. It's a short 5 - 10 minute walk from Port Chalmers' main street and the cruise terminal.

You can add Quarantine Island as your stop off from both Portobello and Port Chalmers.
There is a designated jetty which leads you up to the island for day trips or overnight stays.
The Portobello Wharf is about a 5 minute walk from the Portobello township.
Lookout for the car park, Ferry Boatshed and floating pontoon.

While infants are welcome, please note that they must sit on a guardians lap, and no infant seats are available.
The vessel is stroller accessible: however guests should be prepared to step down approximately 20 cm into the boat.
Unfortunately the tour is not wheelchair accessible and is not suitable for pets.
